Predicting Behavior From Actions in the Past: Repeated Decision Making or a Matter of Habit?
نویسنده
چکیده
This paper summarizes research on determinants of repeated behaviors, and the decision processes underlying them. The present research focuses on travel mode choices as an example ofsuch behaviors. It is proposed that when behavior is performed repeatedly and becomes habitual, it is guided by automated cognitive processes, rather than being preceded by elaborate decision processes (i.e,, a decision based on attitudes and intentions). First, current attitude-behavior models are discussed, and the role of habit in these models is examined. Second, research is presented on the decision processes preceding travel mode choices. Based on the present theoretical and empirical overview, it is concluded that frequently performed behavior is often a matter of habit, thereby establishing a boundary condition for the applicability of attitude-behavior models. However, more systematic research is required to disentangle the role of habit in attitude-behavior models and to learn more about the cognitive processes underlying habitual behavior.

An important aspect of goal-directed action selection is differentiating between actions that are more or less likely to be reinforced. With repeated performance or psychostimulant exposure, however, actions can assume stimulus-elicited-or "habitual"-qualities that are resistant to change. We show that selective knockdown of prelimbic prefrontal cortical Brain-derived neurotrophic factor (Bdnf)...

One of important problems in supply chains management is supplier selection. In a company, there are massive data from various departments so that extracting knowledge from the company’s data is too complicated. Many researchers have solved this problem by some methods like fuzzy set theory, goal programming, multi objective programming, the liner programming, mixed integer programming, analyti...

One of the most common causes or credit phenomenon that is taken into account for credit risk is the customer’s noncompliance with the commitments. Thus, by predicting the behavior of loan applicants, the growth rate of debts can be decreased. Hence, this study is conducted on corporate applicants for loans in one of the public banks in Iran. In this paper, the main elements comprising the cus...

Computer interfaces provide an environment that allows for multiple objectively optimal solutions but individuals will, over time, use a smaller number of subjectively optimal solutions, developed as habits that have been formed and tuned by repetition. Designing an interface agent to provide assistance in this environment thus requires not only knowledge of the objectively optimal solutions, b...
